Inaugural Multi-Generational Breakfast

As the OCA celebrates its Centenary in 2020, keeping the traditions of the Green, White and Black alive within BBC has never been so important. On Thursday 9 May, BBC welcomed over 70 guests including Old Collegians and their families, for the first Multi-generational breakfast. Hosted in the Junior School Undercroft, this new event on the OCA and BBC calendars was for Old Boys and their families who are considering BBC as the school of choice for their son(s).
At this family-friendly event, children were able to play on the playground nearby, while parents enjoyed a casual stand-up breakfast with barista made coffee put on by Young Old Boys from our Coffee For Cambodia social enterprise. Current students, who are sons of Old Collegians, acted as ambassadors for the breakfast.
The Multi-generational breakfast also allowed exclusive access to the Headmaster, Paul Brown, and key members of the School Executive, along with an opportunity to see the College in action. The OCA is looking to expand the breakfast to current and past multi-generational families next year.
All in - We Are Stronger Together!
“I am pleased to announce the launch of our 2019 Annual Appeal. The theme of this year’s appeal is ‘All In’ which is in accord with the challenge the Year 12’s have set for the entire student body. The donations we receive from the appeal support our bursary program and our building fund. We are ambitious for the ongoing development of the College so that we can continue to provide outstanding opportunities for as many boys as possible and develop our facilities for the benefit of every boy and every member of staff. If you are able, I would encourage you to contribute to the appeal as every donation helps and together we can achieve great things for BBC. Please remember that donations to our annual appeal are tax deductible.” – Paul Brown, Headmaster

BOSTON & NEW YORK - UNITED STATES
Dhruv Goel (Old Boy 2016) is travelling to Boston this winter as part of a short-term exchange to study finance at Harvard University. He is currently studying for a dual Bachelor of Law / Commerce at UQ and is finding his coursework very captivating. Dhruv is wanting to get in contact with any BBC alumni working in finance or law who are located on the East Coast of the United States.
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
Three 2016 Old Collegians - Dom Walton, Chris Portway and Sam Long are travelling to London for a short-term exchange. These young men are keen to meet people in the finance and legal industries to learn more about the day-to-day lives of people living in London; tips and tricks for establishing themselves in London; and the types of industries and sectors that are particularly prevalent in the London market.
2014 Alumni, Tom Coupe has since completed a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Queensland and is now in London pursuing a career in finance. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
SURREY, UNITED KINGDOM
The Mitchell Family (who have a son in Year 7 at BBC and a daughter in Year 4 at Graceville) are looking at relocating to Surrey. The overseas move will be a daunting task for the family, particularly as their children will not know anyone their age. The family would welcome any advice on schools and the process of relocating.
WORK EXPERIENCE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS
Current Senior 'Lachie' is looking to study medicine at UQ or James Cook University in Townsville. Any work experience with a doctor or at a hospital would be highly beneficial to get a feel for what it’s like to be a doctor – it doesn’t necessarily have to be rural experience. At the moment, he is hoping to become a rural GP or a sports doctor. Lachie would have time to do work experience in the June/July holidays or on afternoons after school.
'James' is in Year 10 and desperate to become a plumber. He would like to experience what this profession might be like prior to starting some study next year with TAFE at school.
If you can assist Lachie, James or are able to assist in other career paths, please contact the BBC Career's Office via rdeo@bbc.qld.edu.au or 07 3309 3500.

GPS Cross Country and Tennis Champions!
CROSS COUNTRY
Last year BBC won the Jack E. Ross trophy, for the first time in College history, and on Wednesday 29 May, the boys went back to back to be crowned GPS Cross Country champions for the second year running.
Distance running is an extraordinarily challenging athletic endeavour and the way the Championship is constructed, makes it a true team sport. In what was an extremely close final tally our boys fought hard to ensure that every performance contributed towards the overall team result.
Congratulations to all our runners, captains, coaches and managers of the team. Our College community are proud of your efforts, not only today but in your dedication to training and in your commitment to your mates in the green, white and black!

TENNIS PREMIERSHIP WINNERS - SEVEN IN A ROW
The BBC Tennis program continues to grow from strength to strength with our First IV Tennis team being crowned 2019 GPS Premiers.
The First IV (Finn M, Liam F, Eric P and Sam B) finished the season as undefeated Premiers giving the College its 7th Tennis Premiership in a row and its 11th Tennis Premiership in the past 14 years.
This is the seventh consecutive year that BBC has taken the top honour and it is a true testament to the commitment and consistency of players and coaches across the BBC Tennis Program. In 2019 the College had 10 teams that finished in first position (Second IV, Third IV, Fourth IV, 11B, 11C, 10A, 9D, 7A, 7C, 7D).
The overall success rate for the season was around 80% with 26 from the 32 teams finishing in the top three positions.
