From the Headmaster
In this week’s From the Portal, Headmaster Mr Andre Casson reflects on what has been another outstanding term at BBC.
The Week That Was, and the Weeks to Come
The General Capabilities in Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum closely align with the skills identified as essential for success in the 21st century. Activities Week is a very intentional opportunity for the boys to develop those capabilities through the many activities on offer. Capabilities such as critical and creative thinking, personal and social competence, digital literacy, and ethical understanding directly reflect global priorities like problem-solving, collaboration, communication, adaptability, and responsible citizenship.
Whether it was the Year 12s thinking critically about the ethical use of AI and how it affects them in the world, the Year 10s building personal and social awareness on their Outdoor Education experience, the Year 9s exploring what it means to step up as leaders, the Year 8s problem-solving their way through the Amazing Adventures, or the Year 7s building communication and collaboration skills as they put on a Shakespearean production, the week has afforded our boys the opportunity to build capabilities that set them up to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
As a reminder, we kindly request that all students ensure their lockers are cleaned out before they leave for the break. The holidays are also a good time for uniforms to be checked to see if they require alterations, repairs, or dry cleaning. In preparation for Term 4, we request your support in ensuring the boys return clean-shaven with appropriate haircuts. Please check that your son is using his lock on his locker. If it has been lost throughout the term, he will need a replacement to ensure his items are safe and secure for the start of the term.
There are many exciting events planned for Term 4, and we look forward to officially welcoming our new student leaders for 2026 to their roles in Week 3. The date of this and other notable events can be found on a helpful graphic below for your convenience.
Lastly, I would like to wish all the boys and their families a restful and safe break. It has been a busy term, and the holidays offer the opportunity to enjoy some much-needed downtime, reflect, and set some goals for Term 4.

Announcing the Second Annual BBC Expo
We are delighted to share that our second annual BBC Expo will be held in College Hall on Tuesday, 14 October from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Like last year’s event, this is an opportunity for families who don’t yet send their son to BBC to come and speak with staff, explore our programs, and see what makes our school the best fit for their boy.
College Hall will be filled with a wide variety of information stalls showing off our many subjects and programs. There’ll be plenty of activities on offer to engage and excite boys aged ten and under while their parents chat with our staff and learn how their sons can thrive at the College. We’re also taking the opportunity to expand on last year and further highlight how attendance from Junior School provides a vital launching pad for future success both in the classroom and beyond.
If you know someone who might be interested in exploring the unique possibilities available at our school, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could let them know about this event.
Thank you for your continued support of our College as we further our efforts to support every boy to thrive at BBC.

Final Chance - Order Your Copy of the 2025 Portal Yearbook
We have begun preparing the free 2025 BBC yearbook: the Portal.
To help us continue to advance our sustainability efforts, we will only print copies of the Portal for families who place an order.
To order a Portal for your son or sons, please complete this online form by Friday, 19 September. You will be asked to provide the name and year level of your eldest son to receive a copy.
Please be aware that if you do not complete this form, your family will not be provided with a complimentary copy of the 2025 Portal.
The 2025 Portal will be distributed to students in class during Term 1, 2026.
Parents ordering copies for current Year 12 students are strongly encouraged to provide a valid contact email address. This will enable BBC to notify you when your Portal is available for collection. You will be able to retrieve your order from the Alumni Office in early 2026.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us via communications@bbc.qld.edu.au
